The current bear sketch is a good starting point. The feedback was clear: fiercer, sharper and more consistent in its line, with more California in it, and flexible enough to work across many Legion applications.

We explored ten directions, from angular heads to a linocut grizzly. Before recommending any of them, we looked at the bears already in sport, because the field is crowded. Cal and UCLA both own walking bears, and the Perth Bears launch in red and black in 2027 with a snarling head. The research is summarised after the marks.

Our shortlist for the next round:

Centurion bear. A bear in a Roman helmet. It is the only route that says Legion and California at once, and nobody else owns it.
Crest bear. A bear living inside the current CA shield. The most natural bridge from 2027 to 2028.
Goalpost bear. A solid bear silhouette with rugby posts cut from the negative space. Rugby, but quietly.

As with the merch, these are rapid AI explorations to find a direction, not finished artwork. The chosen route will be drawn as a proper vector mark.
